Summerland Festival of Lights - Light Up the Museum
Help us celebrate Summerland's Festival of Lights at "Light Up the Museum"!
The museum will be open and welcoming visitors for the evening. Come to warm up with hot chocolate and cookies (by donation). Browse our free exhibits, including our brand new military exhibit "Summerland Serves" and the ever-popular model railway. Stock up on unique Christmas gifts in our gift shop which stocks a wonderful range of Summerland-related merchandise. Santa will be here from 5pm to 6.30pm for Santa photos (booking required) or take your own selfies in our Holiday Selfie Station from 6.30pm to 9pm (no booking necessary).

Santa is back at the Summerland Museum! Join us for a meet-and-greet with Santa and have your photo taken by our photographer. These sessions will be held inside the Summerland Museum and are by donation (suggested minimum donation $10). All funds raised support the Museum’s educational programming.
Before or after your photo session, enjoy a free walk around the Museum’s permanent exhibits and warm up with a hot chocolate (by donation)

Summerland Serves Exhibit Opening Night
WE WANT YOU!
Join us for the opening of our new exhibit ‘Summerland Serves’ on November 22, from 5-7pm.
The evening will start with refreshments, a door prize, and the opportunity to browse our new exhibit which explores the experiences of Summerlanders in war.
The exhibit will then be formally opened by its curator, Megan Grey, followed by a talk by local military historian, Paul Randall.

On October 27th and 31st, our curator Petra will be hosting special Halloween tours through Peach Orchard Cemetery. This tour will be a little spooky, with haunting and paranormal stories from the early years.

After Dark: Nightmare at the Museum! Dare to be Scared!
The producers of the "Nightmare..." grad fundraisers are taking over the museum in a one-off "Nightmare at the Museum" Halloween special!
Dare you enter the museum after dark? Be prepared to be scared as all your nightmares come to life in one building!
This event is not suitable for young children or those of a nervous disposition!
Entry is $5 per person on the door.
Monsters at the Museum! Trick or Treat Halloween Fun
Join us this Halloween for our annual family-friendly trick-or-treat event.
This year the museum has been taken over by monsters! Dress up in your Halloween costume and come wander through our haunted halls! Your bravery will be rewarded with treats and candy! (Don't forget your treat bag!!)

NEW DATE! Up the Creek! Hiking and Biking Tour with Mary Trainer
We're thrilled to announce a new tour of Trout Creek led by local historian Mary Trainer. This hiking and biking tour focuses on the creek itself, exploring the fascinating history of the area, from the mouth of Trout Creek Canyon down the creek to the shores of the lake.
Highlights include; the history of Sun Oka Provincial Park
Trout Creek Bridge & floods of 1948 & 1972 the mouth of Trout Creek Canyon including the remnants of the dam and flume crossing former sites of the Pierre home, entomology lab, & footbridge Cottonwood preserve Current restoration of the creek.

Kids' Drop-in Activity: All About Art!
Wear your messy clothes and put on your creativity hats because this Saturday, Summerland Museum is hosting an Art Day! At 1 PM on July 27th, all kids aged 6 to 12 are invited to join us at Summerland Museum for a fun hour of creativity and art. We will be making clay models and creating bubble paint while learning about the history of art in Summerland. We hope to see you there!

Panel Discussion: "What to do with my stuff?"
Join us at 1:30 pm on May 25th, 2024 at the Ryga Arts Centre for a panel discussion on planning for the dispersal of treasured belongings and leaving bequests to charitable organizations. Titled “What to do with my stufff?”, this panel discussion brings together five local experts to discuss different options for those currently downsizing or looking to plan ahead.

Earth Day Celebration at the Museum
This Sunday (21st April) is Earth Day and we are celebrating our wonderful planet with lots of exciting activities at the Museum!
We are collaborating with our neighbours, the Summerland Community Arts Council, to provide craft activities, bee displays, and a wildflower seed station from 11am to 3pm.
At 1pm the fabulous Heartspace Yoga Boutique- Summerland Yoga is hosting a family-friendly yoga on the lawn drop-in session. The session is by donation (suggested donation is $20) with all proceeds being split between The Summerland Museum and Discovery House.
The day is rounded off with a fascinating geology presentation by our resident geologist, Andrew Holder, at 2pm. This will be a family-friendly, interactive presentation on the lawn. Everyone is welcome and participation is by donation.
Docent 101 Workshop
This workshop is free for SMAS members and volunteers (including prospective volunteers!).
